United States, Super Spender or Super Power?

The current United States national debt is over 14 trillion dollars. This leads me to ask the question: Is the United States still considered a top world power? Can a country that goes further and further into debt every minute still have the power to influence other countries? My answer is yes. The definition of a world power is a country that is so powerful it is capable of changing the course of world events. The United States military is certainly capable of changing world events, but so are many other things in the United States. For example the U.S. was the first country to have facebook, which is now worldwide. The U.S. was also the first to have McDonalds, which is also worldwide. Maybe these two things aren't the best contributions to society, but they are a large part of today's society. The United States still influences other countries, because its citizens are constantly thinking of "the next big thing", always striving to live the American dream.
